At the last MuleSoft Meetup, Senior Integration Architect Marcin Nowiński was talking about his personal experience regarding the MuleSoft approach to the integration. In today’s article, I will briefly summarize what was presented at the Meetup. In the end, you will be able to take a look at the powerpoint presentation.

API Led Connectivity

API Led Connectivity - clear contract, reusability, discoverability, visibility and security, availability and resilency
API Led Connectivity

It is an approach to connect applications, devices by using reusable APIs. It is completely opposite to the old bad habits like point-to-point integration. As you can see this at the picture above APIs are divided into 3 main categories such as experience APIs, process APIs, and system APIs.

This approach gives us clear contracts, reusable services and as a result, it is much easier to keep your services at high quality during constant changes. More about API Led connectivity you can find at this MuleSoft Blog article.

Application Networks

Emerging Application Networks

Application Network is a network of applications, data, and devices connected with each other by API. As a result, some created assets becoming reusable services that are easily pluggable and unpluggable.

How does the Application Network emerge? When you drive projects using API Led connectivity methodology each next project introduces new reusable assets. Like in the slide above. As you can see each next project uses some assets that were created previously.

More about this concept you can find in MuleSoft resources here and on the online Anypoint Platform Architecture – Application Networks course.

Attend the next Warsaw MuleSoft Meetup and win the trivia quiz 🙂 it is not that hard as the quiz is focused on the content present at the Meetup.

What did the people say?

We had a great discussion about these two ideas. Here I have only summarized briefly attendees opinions.

For some of the attendees, the idea of 3 layered architecture in integration seems to be not new. On the other hand, this is strongly supported by the Anypoint Platform and design lifecycle. The majority don’t know any other integration toolkit that would give such support.

Application Networks

Application Network

We have asked about the experience people have with emerging reusable assets and Application Network. A lot of answers has come. For some project, it took only 4 weeks before the first reusable assets been reused. Others said about between 10th and 12th month of the project. You should keep this in mind that depends on the project.

Quizzes

Trivia winners
Trivia winners

At the end of the Meetup, we had a quiz holding five questions. Using the Kahoot! platform we were able clearly select three winners of trivia questions. Congrats to all the winners.

I would like to thanks all attendees for participating in a survey, at the end of the Meetup, about the organizational aspect of the event. I guess it was the funniest moment of the Meetup.
